PSHE

PSHE stands for personal, social, health and economic education. PSHE education is a school curriculum subject that helps children and young people stay healthy, safe and prepared for life – and work – in modern Britain.

At our school, we aim to inspire all our children to become life-long learners who are articulate and informed citizens. We want our children to be confident, independent and responsible members of society who understand their rights and responsibilities within a diverse multi-cultural society.

We want to provide a safe space for the children to learn PSHE, providing them with the ability to make safe and informed choices and take responsibility for their actions. PSHE enables pupils to learn about themselves and develop their identity and self-esteem as individuals and as members of their communities, building on their own experiences and experiences of others.

We aim to equip pupils with the tools to be emotionally aware, keep themselves mentally and physically safe and form healthy, positive relationships.

More specifically, by the time children leave our school, they should be able to:

· To have a good understanding of how to stay safe, healthy and develop good relationships.

· Engage critically with and explore diverse ideas, beliefs, cultures and identities and the values we share as citizens in the UK.

· Be independent and responsible members of the school community, demonstrating behaviours adopted in our school values

In our school, we adopt the PSHE Association scheme of work. This ensures that the content of our PSHE curriculum meets all statutory obligations and relevant published guidance. We can also be confident that PSHE, including the statutory Relationships Education, is taught using age-appropriate, high-quality resources.

We are also proud to be a 'No Outsiders' school. We use the No Outsiders lessons and resources to complement and build upon the PSHE curriculum, in order to teach our pupils about the importance of diversity and inclusion.
